Week 1 is now currently in the books and there’s a lot to gauge from all that we saw this past weekend. Lets start with…
The Winners:
Most of Andrew’s Starters
Besides catching the all-important Week 1 win, Andrew had a hell of a showing out of a majority of his starters. Jalen Hurts, Jonathan Taylor, and Stefon Diggs all exploded for 30+ point games, and Travis Kelce wasn’t too far behind with a 27.1 point outing. Even what appeared to be mediocre days for guys like Terry McLaurin were saved by long bomb TDs. Unfortunately, folks, it looks like this is going to be another year where Andrew is good in the regular season.
All of Chad’s Starters, Really
Just like Andrew, Chad saw insane production out of pretty much all of his team this week. 30+ point games from Josh Allen and Davante Adams, alongside 28.1 points and 26.9 points from Michael Pittman Jr. and Joe Mixon respectively, let him finish with a cushiony 193.35 points in Week 1.
Running Back Committees
It’s often very hard to sustain multiple fantasy relevant running backs on the same team, but we saw several different examples of it happening this week. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt combined for nearly 47 points against Carolina, while De’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams combined for 53.5 points. It’s also worth noting that all active Eagles running backs scored on Sunday, in addition to a rushing TD from Jalen Hurts. Sharing the ball is cool now, folks.
The Losers:
The Lower Legs of Players on Brent’s team
Early injuries to both Elijah Mitchell and Keenan Allen left any chances of a comeback effort dead in the water on Sunday. Both players figure to be out at least for the next game, creating a whole at WR1 for the Mystery Remotes. While there is time to recalibrate, the work will need to happen fast and the Mystery Remotes really need to make the waiver wire work for them.
Investors in the Cowboys Offense
What should have been a high powered, pass-first offense is now going to be the Cooper Rush show for the next 6-8 weeks. Dak Prescott, who looked pitiful even before the injury, will be out and it probably will directly affect every single Cowboys player. The only Cowboys who should feel good are Brett Maher and maybe Dalton Schultz.
Ryan’s Team
It’s not fair to only discuss the downfalls of my own team. Ryan had it bad in Week 1 as well. Between his RB/WR flex players putting up a combined 30.7 points (22.8 of those coming from Antonio Gibson) and his TE throwing up 1.5 points in the Thursday night game, there are some questions that need answering. Lucky for Ryan, it looks like his bench has some of the answers as Miles Sanders notched 96 yards and a TD on Sunday and Michael Thomas went 5 for 57 with 2 TDs.
The Linners (Loser Winners)
Kickers?
What a confusing week for kickers. Chris Boswell, Evan McPherson, Rodrigo Blankenship, among a few others had utterly confusing missed kicks this week. Simultaneously, Cade York, Younghoe Koo, and Greg Joseph put up solid WR2/RB2 numbers as kickers this week. There is a weird thing going with kickers and I don’t know if I like it.
